We are sad to announce the passing of Bob Basarich (ex-lockport HS basketball coach). In recognition of his exceptional achievements as a coach, Coach Basarich was elected to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.

His contagious smile and generous nature made every event memorable and enjoyable. Bob Basarich was a man of great heart and was always ready to help those in need.

Bob Basarich had a long and successful tenure as the Lockport High School boys’ basketball team’s head coach.He led the team to 16 conference titles, 15 IHSA regional title, 6 IHSA sectional titles and 3 IHSA state finals appearances over the course of 22 years.His team won the Class AA state championship in 1978. They finished with a perfect 33-0 record.With a record of 29-2, the team was awarded a place in the tournament’s final eight. The squad had only competed once in the state championship match before Bob arrived in Lockport.Bob was recognized in 1973 and 1978 as Coach of Year, in addition to his success on the court.Bob’s impact was far more than the Lockport basketball court.
